The Holdfast Platform Heat Guard mounts onto Holdfast platform bike carriers, sitting between the exhaust outlet and the bike. It's aimed at anyone whose carrier holds a bike low and close to the tailpipe, giving hot exhaust gas something solid to hit instead of a tyre, cable or plastic part.
A platform carrier puts the bike low down at the back of the vehicle, right where the exhaust exits. That's fine cruising on the open road, but crawl through traffic or grind up a long hill and the gas coming out stays hot with nowhere to go. Rubber suffers first, though the same heat will soften a sidewall, mark a painted finish or cook a plastic component if it sits in the path long enough — and the damage is often gradual enough that you only notice once there's a mark.
We can help you check exhaust clearance on your loaded carrier in Cape Town before you head off.

Which carriers does the heat guard fit?
It's designed to mount onto Holdfast platform bike carriers. Ask us to confirm fit for your specific model.
Why would my carrier need one?
On a platform carrier the bike sits close to the exhaust outlet. In heavy traffic or on a long climb that heat can soften a tyre, mark paint or damage plastic; the guard sits between the two to block it.
How do I know if I need one?
Have a look at your tailpipe once the carrier is loaded. If the gas comes out toward the middle of the vehicle or the bike's side, fit the guard.
Does it need any extra fittings?
No, it mounts onto the carrier you already have. Ask us if you'd like help checking your setup.
