Short Product Summary

A 12 inch (305 mm) 1AWG tinned copper link with 5/16 inch ring lugs on both ends, made for joining batteries to each other in series or in parallel. Factory crimped, heat-shrunk and TUV listed, so the weakest point in your battery bank is not a cable you made in the driveway.

Why This Product

When you wire two or more batteries together, the interconnects carry the entire bank current, and they need to be identical. That last word matters. If one link is a little longer or a little thinner than the other, the batteries share current unevenly, one works harder than the rest, and over a couple of seasons the bank ages unevenly. It is the classic reason a set of batteries that were bought together stop performing together. Using proper matched interconnects removes that variable. 1AWG is roughly 50mm² of copper, which is the standard gauge for battery-to-battery links in a caravan or camper bank feeding an inverter. The 5/16 inch lugs suit the M8 terminals used on most lithium blocks, including a lot of the Renogy range. Tinned copper is not a luxury here either: battery boxes get damp, and green corrosion at a terminal is resistance, heat and eventually a failed joint.

Key Features

  • 5/16 inch (M8) tin-plated copper ring lugs both ends – fits the terminal studs used on most lithium batteries.
  • 1AWG (approximately 50mm²) conductor – the standard gauge for battery interconnects in inverter-equipped systems.
  • 12in (305 mm) length – sized for batteries sitting side by side, without a loop of slack to snag.
  • Factory crimped and heat-shrunk terminals – a consistent, low-resistance joint on both ends.
  • Tin-plated oxygen-free copper – resists corrosion and improves heat dissipation at the lug.
  • TUV listed, UV resistant and waterproof – rated for PV solar application and damp compartments.
  • Abrasion-resistant insulation – survives contact with a battery box edge on a corrugated road.
  • Suitable for series and parallel wiring – the same cable does both jobs.

Ideal For

  • Wiring two 12V batteries in series to make a 24V house bank.
  • Paralleling batteries to double capacity at the same voltage.
  • Building a series-parallel bank for higher voltage and higher capacity.
  • Replacing mismatched home-made interconnects in an existing caravan bank.
  • Off-road trailer and camper battery boxes where every joint needs to survive vibration.

Local Support from 4Matt Campers

Order from anywhere in South Africa — 4Matt Campers ships and supports it. Before you order, check your battery terminal stud size, because 5/16 inch and 3/8 inch lugs are not interchangeable and a loose lug on a stud is a genuine hazard. Send us a photo of the terminal if you are unsure. Battery cable, lugs, fusing and busbars are in electrical accessories, and the batteries themselves in lithium batteries.

Optional Fitment & Upgrade Notes

Buy one cable per connection, and use identical cables throughout the bank so current shares evenly. In a two-battery series bank you need one interconnect. In a two-battery parallel bank you need two, one positive and one negative. Torque the lugs evenly to the battery manufacturer's figure and re-check after the first long gravel trip. Do not stack more lugs on a stud than the terminal was designed for. In a parallel bank, take the main positive from one end of the string and the main negative from the other end so all batteries see a similar path length. Isolate and disconnect before working, and remember that a spanner across two terminals on a lithium bank will weld itself to them.

Complete Your Setup

Use it with a bank from lithium batteries, main fusing from electrical accessories and an inverter from inverters and inverter chargers. Charging comes from solar panels through solar charge controllers, and the wider range is in Renogy.

FAQ

How many do I need?
One per battery-to-battery connection. Two batteries in series need one; two in parallel need two.

Will 5/16 inch lugs fit my battery?
They fit M8 studs. If your battery uses 3/8 inch (M10) terminals, this lug will be loose and you need the 3/8 inch version instead.

Can I use it for the main cable to my inverter?
Only if 1AWG is adequate for your inverter's current and the run is short. Larger inverters usually want heavier cable and 3/8 inch lugs.

Does the length matter?
Yes, and consistency matters more. All interconnects in a bank should be the same length so the batteries share current evenly.

Can I mix these with cables I already have?
Not in the same bank. Mismatched interconnects are the main reason a battery bank ages unevenly.
