Why This Product

People underestimate DC current. A 12V inverter delivering 2000W is pulling roughly 200 amps from the battery, and at 3000W it is worse. Push that through undersized cable and two things happen: you lose voltage before it even reaches the inverter, so the unit shuts down early on low-voltage cut-out and you blame the battery, and the cable itself gets hot. Hot cable in a confined caravan locker is a genuine fire risk, not a theoretical one. At 1AWG (50mm²) with proper copper conductors and factory-crimped lugs, this pair is sized for the job. Factory crimps matter too, because a hand-made joint with a hammer crimp and some solder is exactly where high-current systems fail after a few thousand kilometres of corrugations.

Optional Fitment & Upgrade Notes

Fuse the positive cable as close to the battery terminal as physically possible, sized for the cable and the inverter, not just the inverter. An unfused high-current cable that chafes through against the chassis is the single most dangerous fault in a 12V system. Keep the run as short as you sensibly can, support the cable so it cannot move or rub, and use grommets wherever it passes through a bulkhead. Torque the terminal bolts properly, because a loose high-current joint generates heat and will eventually fail. Keep the pair routed together rather than separated, and check the terminals again after the first few hundred kilometres of gravel.

FAQ

Is 1AWG big enough for a 3000W inverter?
At 2.4m it is a sensible size for many 12V installs, but current, length and acceptable voltage drop all matter. Send us your inverter model and cable run and we will confirm before you buy.

Do I need a fuse as well?
Yes, always, on the positive as close to the battery as practical. We stock ANL fuse sets and terminal fuses.

Will the 3/8in lugs fit my battery?
3/8 inch is a common terminal size on larger batteries and inverters, but check yours. Some use M8. Ask us if you are unsure.

Can I shorten them?
Only if you can crimp a proper high-current lug. A poor crimp on a 200A cable is dangerous. Better to buy the right length.

Why not use cheaper copper-clad aluminium?
For the same physical size it has more resistance, so it runs hotter and drops more voltage. On inverter cables it is a false economy.
