The Renogy RIV2420P2 is a 2000W continuous pure sine wave inverter built for 24V house battery banks, putting out clean 230V mains power for a caravan, camper or off-road trailer. It handles 4000W of surge, converts at better than 92%, and ships with a wired remote so you can switch it on and off from inside without crawling into the battery box.
Most South African caravanners start on 12V and hit the wall the moment they add a compressor fridge, a kettle and a microwave. At 2000W on a 12V bus you are pulling well over 160A through the cabling. Step the bank up to 24V and that current halves, which means thinner cable, smaller fuses, less voltage drop and a cooler, safer install. This inverter is the piece that makes a 24V build practical: it takes the higher bus voltage and gives you the same 230V 50Hz socket outlet you would use at home. Pure sine output matters here too. Modified-sine units cook induction motors and upset the electronics in modern fridges, CPAP machines and laptop chargers. This one produces a clean waveform, so anything you would plug in at home will behave the same way on the road.

Mount the inverter as close to the battery bank as the cable run allows and keep it in a ventilated space. The supplied 3AWG leads are short on purpose. If you extend them, step the gauge up rather than down and refit an appropriately rated fuse at the battery end. A DC fuse or breaker between the bank and the inverter is not optional on a 2000W unit. The chassis must be properly earthed to the vehicle. AC side wiring into a caravan distribution board should be done by a competent installer, and if you intend to feed a fixed installation you will want an isolating changeover switch so shore power and inverter output can never be live at the same time.

Will this run a 2000W kettle?
It will run a kettle rated at or below 2000W, but only for as long as your battery bank can supply roughly 90A at 24V. A short boil on a healthy 200Ah 24V lithium bank is comfortable. A long boil on a small bank is not.
Can I use it on a 12V system?
No. The DC input is 24V nominal. Connecting it to a 12V bank will not work and connecting it to 48V will damage it. If you are on 12V, look at the 12V models in our inverter range.
Does it have a built-in transfer switch or charger?
No. This is a standalone inverter. If you want automatic changeover to shore power or an integrated battery charger, you need an inverter charger instead. We stock those too.
What size fuse and cable do I need?
At full 2000W output the DC draw is roughly 90 to 100A, and surge is higher. In practice that means heavy cable on a short run and a fuse sized for the cable, not the inverter. Send us your intended cable length and we will confirm the gauge.
Why is the remote worth using?
Leaving an inverter powered up all night costs you about 19W of idle draw. The remote lets you kill it from your bunk instead of opening the battery box in the dark, which in practice means it actually gets switched off.
