The Renogy 20A Portable Battery Charger is an automatic mains-powered charger for 12V lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries. Plug it into a wall socket, clip the 12 AWG alligator leads onto the battery, and it charges at up to 20A to 14.6V, then monitors and maintains the battery at full charge on its own. A single LED tells you the charge state at a glance.
Most caravanners charge from the alternator and from solar, and both are excellent on the road. But when the van is standing at home between trips, or you have pulled into a park with power and want the bank full by morning, you need a proper lithium mains charger. An ordinary lead-acid charger will not bring a LiFePO4 battery to the right voltage, and many will not even start on a battery that has gone flat and tripped its BMS. This unit is built specifically for LiFePO4, includes lithium activation for a battery that has dropped low, and is small and light enough at 1.7 kg to live in a locker and travel with you.
4Matt Campers is a Renogy dealer in Cape Town, serving the Western Cape and delivering nationwide across South Africa. We work with lithium systems daily, so if you want to check that this charger suits your battery's charge current limit, or you need it matched to a battery and a DC-DC charger as a package, phone us and we will sort it out.
Can I use this on my AGM or gel battery?
No. It is built for 12V lithium iron phosphate batteries and charges to 14.6V, which is a lithium voltage. Use a lead-acid specific charger for AGM, gel or flooded batteries.
My lithium battery has gone flat and will not wake up. Will this help?
It can. The charger will engage on batteries down to 8V and includes a lithium activation function, which is usually enough to bring a BMS back online.
How long will it take to charge a 100Ah battery?
At a full 20A, roughly five hours from empty in ideal conditions. Real-world time depends on how depleted the battery is and how the BMS tapers the final stage.
Can I leave it connected while the caravan is in storage?
Yes. It automatically monitors the battery and maintains it at full charge, which is exactly what you want during long standing periods.
Will it run off my generator or inverter?
Yes, provided the supply is stable 100–240V AC at 50/60Hz and can deliver the charger's 5A maximum input draw.
