Short Product Summary

A 20A fuse sealed inside a waterproof in-line holder, with a standard solar connector on each end. It plugs straight into a panel lead or an adaptor kit, no cutting and no crimping, and gives a solar string proper over-current protection out on the roof where the weather is.

Why This Product

String fusing is the part of a solar install that gets skipped because it seems optional on a single panel. It stops being optional the moment you wire two or more panels in parallel. In a parallel array, a fault in one panel can be back-fed by all the others, and the only thing limiting that current is the fuse in that string. On a caravan roof that is not an academic concern; it is a live 1000V-rated DC circuit sitting in the sun above your bed. This holder makes the fix trivial. It has a solar connector on each end, so it clicks into an existing panel lead in seconds and comes apart just as easily when you want to isolate a string for fault-finding. IP67 sealing and a PPO body mean it can live outside permanently, and the fuse itself is replaceable rather than the whole unit being disposable.

Key Features

  • 20A rated fuse in a sealed holder – correct protection for typical caravan and camper solar strings.
  • Solar connector on each end – plugs into panel leads and adaptor kits without cutting or crimping.
  • IP67 rated sealing – designed to sit permanently on a roof through rain, dust and sun.
  • 1000V DC rated – far beyond anything a 12V or 24V caravan array will present.
  • Replaceable fuse – change the element instead of throwing away the holder.
  • Silver-plated copper contacts – low contact resistance that stays low over years outdoors.
  • PPO insulation, UL94-V0 flame class – self-extinguishing material rather than ordinary plastic.
  • Auto-lock plug and play connectors – positive click when mated, no accidental separation on corrugations.
  • Wide operating range from -40°C to +125°C – covers a black roof in the Kalahari and a frosty Karoo morning.

Ideal For

  • Fusing individual strings in a parallel solar array on a caravan or camper roof.
  • Adding protection to a portable panel or suitcase feed.
  • Providing an easy disconnect point for fault-finding on a roof array.
  • Off-road trailers where the array is exposed to dust and water crossings.
  • Bush cottage and farm solar wiring that needs to be weatherproof and inspectable.

Optional Fitment & Upgrade Notes

Fit the holder in the positive lead of each string, close to the panel end rather than at the controller, so that the length of unprotected cable is as short as possible. Only one per string is needed. If you are running a single panel straight into a controller, string fusing is not strictly required, though it still gives you a convenient disconnect. Route the holder so it hangs below the connectors rather than above them; water runs downhill and you want it running away from the seals, not into them. When you replace a blown fuse, work out why it blew before you refit; a solar string that blows a 20A fuse has either a wiring fault or more panels on it than you thought. Keep the dust caps on any unmated connector.

Complete Your Setup

Use it with panels from solar panels, branch connectors and extension leads from electrical accessories, and a regulator from solar charge controllers. Storage is in lithium batteries and 230V conversion in inverters and inverter chargers.

FAQ

Do I need one for every panel?
In a parallel array of three or more panels, yes, one per string. With one or two panels the risk is much lower, though many installers still fit them for the disconnect.

Will it fit my panel leads?
It uses standard solar connectors, which are what Renogy panels and almost every other brand are fitted with. Check that your existing connectors are the same standard before ordering.

Positive or negative lead?
Positive, as with all fusing. One fuse per string in the positive line.

Can I replace the fuse myself?
Yes. The holder unscrews and the fuse is replaceable. Disconnect the string and cover the panel first so it is not generating while you work.

Can it stay outside permanently?
Yes, it is IP67 rated and made from UV-stable material. That is exactly what it is designed for.
