Short Product Summary

A short 4AWG tinned copper link with a 3/8 inch ring terminal on both ends, made to sit between your battery's positive terminal and an ANL fuse holder. Two feet (about 600 mm) is deliberately short, because the whole point of this cable is to keep the fuse close to the battery.

Why This Product

A fuse only protects the cable downstream of it. Everything between the battery post and the fuse is unprotected, so that stretch needs to be as short as physically possible. That is what this cable is for: a proper, correctly terminated 600 mm link so the ANL fuse sits right next to the battery instead of somewhere convenient halfway across the trailer. People improvise this connection all the time with whatever offcut is in the toolbox, and it is exactly the wrong place to improvise. A poorly crimped lug on the unfused side of a lithium bank is a fire waiting for a corrugated road. 4AWG is 21.15mm² of copper, which handles the currents an inverter or a large DC-DC charger will pull through a fuse block, and the ring terminals are sized for standard 3/8 inch studs on both the battery and the fuse holder.

Key Features

  • 3/8 inch ring terminals on both ends – bolts straight onto a battery stud at one end and an ANL fuse holder at the other.
  • 4AWG (21.15mm²) conductor – sized for inverter and DC-DC charger currents rather than light accessory loads.
  • Short 2ft (approximately 600 mm) length – keeps the unfused run between battery and fuse to a minimum.
  • Tin-plated oxygen-free copper – stays clean at the lug in a damp battery box or coastal air.
  • Factory crimped and heat-shrunk terminals – a properly made joint rather than a workshop guess.
  • TUV tested cable, UV resistant – rated for PV solar application and outdoor conditions.
  • Rated 0.6/1 kV AC and 1.8 kV DC – far beyond anything a 12V or 24V caravan system will apply.
  • Wide temperature range – holds up from around -40°C to +90°C, which covers a hot battery box in the Kalahari.

Ideal For

  • Connecting a battery positive terminal to an ANL fuse holder in a caravan or camper.
  • Inverter installations where the main DC fuse must sit close to the bank.
  • DC-DC charger and solar controller feeds that need proper over-current protection.
  • Replacing an improvised offcut on the unfused side of a lithium battery.
  • Tidying up a battery box that has grown organically over several trips.

Local Support from 4Matt Campers

Order from anywhere in South Africa — 4Matt Campers ships and supports it. If you are not certain what fuse rating belongs on your system, ask us before you order the fuse. Sizing a fuse to the cable rather than to the load is the part most people get backwards. The matching fuse sets and holders are in electrical accessories, and the rest of the range is in Renogy.

Optional Fitment & Upgrade Notes

The ANL fuse holder and fuse are sold separately, and the fuse rating must suit the cable it protects, not the appliance at the far end. Mount the fuse holder within easy reach of the battery so this cable stays short and does not need to loop. Torque both ring terminals firmly and check them again after the first few hundred kilometres of gravel. Keep the terminal on the battery stud clean and use a star washer if the stud is aluminium. If your system pulls more than 4AWG can carry, this cable is the wrong size and you should be looking at a heavier gauge rather than adding a second cable in parallel.

Complete Your Setup

Combine it with an ANL fuse set from electrical accessories, a bank from lithium batteries and a unit from inverters and inverter chargers. If the fuse sits on a solar feed, the controller is in solar charge controllers and the array in solar panels.

FAQ

Which fuse rating should I use with it?
Size the fuse to protect the cable and the smallest conductor in the circuit. For 4AWG in a caravan that usually lands somewhere between 100A and 200A depending on the run. Tell us your setup and we will confirm.

Does it come with a fuse or holder?
No. This is the cable only. ANL fuse sets with holder and fuse are listed separately.

Can I use it as a battery interconnect?
You can, provided both studs take a 3/8 inch ring and the current is within 4AWG's capability. For 5/16 inch studs you want the interconnect cable with 5/16 inch lugs instead.

Why is it so short?
Because everything between the battery post and the fuse is unprotected. Short is safe. A long, tidy-looking fuse lead is a worse installation than a short, awkward one.

Is one cable enough or do I need two?
One. The fuse goes in the positive line only. The negative goes straight to the bank.
