Why This Product

The moment your caravan roof carries three panels, you have a wiring decision to make. Parallel keeps the array voltage low, which suits a PWM controller and keeps the string within the input limits of a small MPPT unit. To wire in parallel you need to join three positives into one and three negatives into one, and doing that with junction boxes and glands on a roof is both ugly and a leak risk. These connectors do the job in a few seconds each, sealed to IP67, and they come apart just as fast when you need to isolate a panel for fault-finding. They are rated to 50A and 1000V DC, which is well beyond what three 12V panels will ever present, so the connector will never be the weak point. Optional Fitment & Upgrade Notes

Mount the branch connectors so they hang with the leads pointing downwards, not upwards into a pool of water on the roof. Cable-tie them to a rail rather than letting them swing; a connector that flexes on every corrugation eventually fatigues at the cable entry. When you parallel three panels the current through the run to the controller triples, so check that your main lead is thick enough and that any in-line fuse is sized for the new total. Fuse each panel string individually if you are running three or more in parallel. Keep dust caps on any unused connector. If you later want to move to series wiring for an MPPT controller, these come apart without damage and can be set aside for the next build.

FAQ

Do I need one connector or the pair?
The pair. One handles the three positives, the other the three negatives. They are supplied together for exactly that reason.

Should I wire three panels in series instead?
With a modern MPPT controller and a long cable run, series is often better. With a PWM controller, parallel is the only sensible option. It depends on your controller's input voltage limit.

Do I still need fuses?
Yes. With three or more panels in parallel, each string should have its own in-line fuse, because the other panels can back-feed a fault.

Can I use just two of the three inputs?
You can, but cap the unused leg properly. An open connector on a roof will fill with water and dust.
