You still need a charge controller between the panels and the battery unless one is supplied with the kit, and for a 300W array an MPPT controller will noticeably outperform a basic PWM unit, especially in cool, bright conditions. Think about extension leads: the whole point of a portable panel is putting it where the sun is, so a decent run of correctly sized cable with MC4 connectors is worth having. Voltage drop matters over long runs, so do not use undersized wire. Practically, remember these panels are valuable and sitting in the open, so plan how you will secure them if you leave camp, and always fold and stow them before driving on gravel.

Do I need a charge controller with this?
Yes, unless one is included with your kit. Panels must never be wired directly to a battery. Check with us at time of order and we will confirm what ships in the box.

Is 300W portable better than 300W on the roof?
Different jobs. Roof panels harvest while you drive and need no setup. A suitcase lets you park in shade and aim at the sun, which often wins in practice. Many people end up running both.

How much will it actually put back in a day?
It depends entirely on season, latitude, cloud and how well you angle it. Aimed properly on a clear Karoo day it will do far better than the same panel lying flat on a roof, but treat any single number you see quoted online with suspicion.

Can I leave it out in the rain?
The panels themselves are built for outdoor use, but fold and stow the suitcase before travelling and bring it in if you are leaving camp for the day.

Will it work with my existing roof solar?
