Why This Product

MRBF stands for marine rated battery fuse, and the design does one clever thing: instead of sitting in a holder in the middle of a cable run, it clamps straight onto the positive terminal stud with the cable lug on top of it. That means there is effectively zero unprotected cable. On a caravan or camper where the battery box is tight and every centimetre of cable is a compromise, that is worth a lot. It also removes an entire fuse holder, two extra joints and a length of cable from the build. Optional Fitment & Upgrade Notes

If you are not using a Renogy combiner box, you will need an MRBF terminal fuse holder to mount this fuse on a standard battery post. The fuse itself is the element and the holder is what secures it and insulates the exposed side. Fit it on the positive terminal only. Keep the stack clean and tight: fuse, then cable lug, then the M8 bolt, torqued evenly. A loose MRBF stack heats up under load, and a hot joint eventually becomes a failed one. Do not fit a larger fuse than the cable can carry just because a circuit keeps blowing; a fuse that keeps blowing is telling you something about the load or a fault, not about itself.

FAQ

Do I need a fuse holder as well?
Yes, unless you are fitting it to a Renogy combiner box that already has MRBF provision. On a plain battery post you need an MRBF terminal fuse holder.

Can I use a 30A fuse to protect my inverter?
No. A 2000W inverter draws far more than 30A. This rating suits controller feeds and light DC branches. Inverters need an ANL fuse sized to the cable.

Will it work on a 24V system?
Yes. It is rated to 58V, so 12V, 24V and 48V systems are all within spec, though the interrupt capacity drops as system voltage rises.

What does the M8 bolt do?
It is the fastener that clamps the fuse and your cable lug onto the terminal or busbar stud. It is included so you do not have to source one.

How is this better than a blade fuse?
Position and interrupt capacity. It sits at the terminal so there is no unprotected cable, and it can safely break a very high fault current, which a small blade fuse cannot.
