A pair of Renogy 3 metre 10AWG (6mm²) solar extension cables with MC4 male and female connectors already fitted. They plug straight in between panel and controller, or between panels, to buy you the distance you need without cutting or crimping anything.
The single biggest advantage of a portable solar panel is that you can walk it into the sun while the van sits in the shade, and the thing that limits you is cable length. Three metres of properly sized extension is often exactly the difference between a panel that spends the afternoon half-shaded and one that works all day. On fixed installations these are just as useful for reaching between panels on a roof or getting a controller to a sensible mounting point. Because both ends are factory MC4, there is nothing to make up, nothing to get wrong, and nothing to fail in the weather. At 10AWG (6mm²) the conductor is generous enough that a 3m extension costs you very little in voltage drop.
4Matt Campers delivers genuine Renogy parts across South Africa. If you are not sure how much cable you need or what gauge suits your array, phone us with the panel wattage and the distance and we will work it out with you. Come through to the showroom and we will show you how it all connects.
Extensions add resistance, so use the shortest run that does the job rather than coiling ten metres of surplus behind the van. If you do need more reach, joining two of these is fine, but consider stepping up a gauge for very long runs at higher currents. Keep connectors up off wet ground where you can, and click them fully home until they latch. Do not leave a coiled extension tightly wound in full sun under heavy load. When packing up, disconnect at the panel first and keep the connector ends clean, because grit in an MC4 is what causes a poor contact later.
Choose your panel from our solar panels range and a matched unit from our solar charge controllers collection. Store the energy in a bank from our lithium batteries range, add 230V from our inverters and inverter chargers, and find branch connectors, in-line fuses and adaptor kits in our electrical accessories collection. Everything Renogy is in our Renogy collection.
Is this one cable or two?
Two. It is supplied as a pair, one lead for positive and one for negative.
Can I join two pairs for 6 metres?
Yes, MC4 connectors are designed to link. Just be aware that longer runs mean more voltage drop.
Will it fit my panel?
MC4 is the industry standard connector and fits Renogy panels and most other brands.
Does the extra length lose me power?
A little, but at 10AWG over 3 metres the loss is small. Undersized cable is what really costs you.
Can I leave them connected outdoors permanently?
Yes, the cable and connectors are rated for outdoor use. Clip them up so they are not lying in standing water or chafing.
