Why This Product

Two 100W panels and one 200W panel produce the same power on paper, but they are not the same job. The single 200W module means half the brackets, half the MC4 joins and one cable run instead of two. Fewer connections means fewer places for water to get in and fewer places for a corroded contact to cost you output three years down the line. If you have a long, clear stretch of caravan roof, this is the tidier install.

Electrically it is a genuine 12V-nominal panel. The maximum power point sits at 19.2V, so it works properly with a straightforward PWM controller as well as with MPPT, unlike higher-voltage modules that need MPPT to be useful on a 12V bank. The trade-off is current: this panel runs at 10.42A at its maximum power point, which is real current, so the cable between the panel and the controller needs to be sized properly and fused.

The half-cut cell layout matters in practice. Splitting each cell in half halves the current through each one, which cuts resistive losses and reduces heat, and it also means partial shading across one half of the panel does not necessarily take out the whole module. Combined with the built-in bypass diodes, that makes it more forgiving of the aerial shadow that crosses your roof every afternoon.

Optional Fitment & Upgrade Notes

  • A charge controller is required. Never connect a panel directly to a battery. This one needs a PWM or MPPT controller between it and the bank.
  • Controller sizing: at 10.42 A maximum power current, allow a 20 A controller for a single panel on a 12V system, or 30-40 A if you plan to run two.
  • Cable and fusing: the current is high enough that undersized cable will cost you real output. Use appropriately rated solar cable for the run length and fit an in-line fuse rated above the panel's short-circuit current.
  • Series wiring: two in series gives roughly 38.4 V at the maximum power point and 46 V open circuit, which suits an MPPT controller and lets you use thinner cable.
  • Parallel wiring: two in parallel keeps voltage near 19 V for PWM use but pushes over 20 A through the array cable, so combiner fusing becomes important.
  • Mounting: use at least four bracket points on a panel this size. Measure your clear roof length before ordering, allowing for the hatch, aerial and awning rail.

FAQ

One 200W panel or two 100W panels?
If your roof has one long clear run, the single 200W is a simpler and tidier install with fewer connections. If your roof is broken up by a hatch, aircon and aerial, two smaller panels almost always fit better. Measure first.

Will it work with a PWM controller?
Yes. The maximum power point is 19.2V, which is a proper 12V-nominal match, so PWM works. MPPT will still harvest more, particularly early and late in the day and in cool weather.

What can 200W actually run?
In good South African sun, roughly 800-1000 Wh a day. That comfortably covers a 12V fridge, LED lighting, a water pump and device charging, with some headroom for a small inverter. Winter output in the Western Cape can be half that.

Is 12 kg a problem on a caravan roof?
It is manageable but it is weight high up, so mount it over a structural member where you can and spread the load across at least four brackets. On a lightweight pop-top roof, two smaller panels may be the better answer.

What cable size do I need?
That depends on the run length, but at over 10 A this panel is not a 2.5 mm² job on a long run. Tell us your distance from roof to controller and we will spec the cable and fuse properly rather than guess.
