Wiring a house battery straight to the alternator through a solenoid is a poor way to charge it. Optional Fitment & Upgrade Notes

• The D+ ignition cable is not included and must be connected — the charger will not power on without it. Renogy recommends 18–16 AWG copper cable.
• The LC current-limit cable is also not included; use 18–16 AWG copper cable if your setup requires it.
• The Renogy battery temperature sensor is sold separately and is not compatible with lithium batteries.
• Main battery cabling should be sized for 60A over the full run length — on long caravan installations this usually means heavy gauge cable and correctly rated fusing at both battery ends.
• Set the DIP switches to match your battery chemistry before first use; SW5 selects between lead-acid and lithium.

FAQ

Why can't I just connect my lithium battery to the alternator with a solenoid?
A lithium battery will accept as much current as the alternator can give, which can overload the alternator, and the alternator's fixed voltage will not charge the battery correctly. A DC-DC charger limits current to a safe 60A and applies the right lithium voltage profile.

Will this work with my newer bakkie's smart alternator?
Yes. The CORE 60A supports both traditional and smart (variable voltage) alternators, and its 8–16V input range keeps it charging even when the alternator drops its output voltage.

Does it have Bluetooth or an app?
No. The CORE 60A is a straightforward DIP-switch configured charger with LED status indication. If you want app monitoring, look at the Renogy REGO 12V 60A DC-DC charger instead.

Does it have a built-in solar MPPT input?
No. This model charges from the alternator only. Pair it with a separate Renogy MPPT solar controller if you also want solar input.

Will it drain my starter battery when the vehicle is parked?
No. The D+ ignition signal means the charger only operates once the engine is running, and idle draw is under 0.4A.
