The Renogy Pro 12V 500Ah Smart Lithium Battery is the largest single battery in the Renogy Pro range: roughly 6.4 kWh of LiFePO4 capacity in one unit, with built-in Bluetooth, self-heating for cold-weather charging and a 60-feature BMS with active cell balancing. This is the battery for people who want to stop thinking about power altogether.
Most off-grid frustration comes down to capacity. Run a compressor fridge, lights, water pump, laptops and an inverter for a kettle, and a 100 Ah bank starts to feel small by the second cloudy day. At 500 Ah in a single case you get genuine multi-day autonomy without stringing four batteries together, which also means one BMS, one set of connections and far fewer things to go wrong. For long stays in the Kgalagadi or extended Cederberg trips, that changes how you travel.
4Matt Campers is a Renogy dealer in Cape Town, serving the Western Cape and delivering across South Africa. A 500 Ah battery is a serious purchase and the installation deserves proper planning: mounting and weight distribution, cable and fuse sizing, and enough solar and DC-DC charging to actually refill it. Come and talk it through with us in the showroom before you commit.
Is 500 Ah overkill?
Not if you run an inverter for cooking appliances, a compressor fridge and several devices while staying put for days. If you mostly tour between powered sites, a 100 Ah to 200 Ah battery is usually plenty. We will give you an honest answer either way.
How much solar do I need to recharge it?
Considerably more than a single panel. Talk to us with your typical daily consumption and we will size the array and controller properly.
Can it run a 3,000 W inverter?
Yes, this is the sort of capacity a 3 kW inverter needs behind it, both for runtime and discharge capability.
What does self-heating do?
Lithium must not be charged below freezing. The integrated heater warms the cells first so charging is safe down to -20 °C.
Is one 500 Ah better than four 100 Ah batteries?
Generally yes. One battery means one BMS, one set of connections and no risk of imbalance between parallel units.
