How you use a small panel depends on what you are charging. Feeding a USB device or a power bank directly is straightforward. Charging a lead-acid or lithium battery, even a small one, still needs a charge controller between the panel and the battery, so do not connect it straight to a battery terminal. If you want the panel to do useful work while driving, plan where it will sit so it is not sliding around the dash. And keep expectations calibrated: 30W in good sun is a slow, steady trickle, not a fast charge.

FAQ

Will 30W run my camping fridge?
No. A compressor fridge needs far more than this. Look at the 100W, 200W or larger portable panels instead.

Can I charge a battery directly from it?
Not directly onto a battery without a charge controller. Charging a USB device or a power bank with a built-in regulator is fine.

How long to charge a phone?
In good direct sun, comparable to a normal wall charger. In cloud or poor angle, considerably slower. Aim it at the sun and it works far better than laying it flat.

Is it waterproof?
It is built for outdoor use, but pack it away in heavy weather and do not leave it out unattended for days.

Can I use it as a backup for my caravan system?
It is a sensible thing to carry, but understand its scale. It will keep small devices and a power bank going, not recharge a house battery.
