Short Product Summary

The Renogy Solar Adaptor Kit is a pair of 6 metre 10AWG (6mm²) cables with MC4 connectors on one end and bare wire on the other, made to run from your solar panel down to the charge controller. It is the connection almost every fixed solar install needs and the one people most often improvise badly.

Why This Product

The cable between panel and controller is not a place to save money. Undersized wire quietly costs you output every single day through voltage drop, and the losses get worse the longer the run and the higher the current. On a caravan the run is rarely short: the panel is on the roof, the controller is in a cupboard or under a seat, and by the time the cable has gone through a gland, along a channel and down a wall you have used several metres. At 10AWG (6mm²) this kit is properly sized for typical 100W to 200W panel runs at this length, and the factory-fitted MC4 ends mean a weatherproof, correctly crimped connection at the panel instead of a hand-made joint sitting in the sun and rain for years.

Key Features

  • 10AWG (6mm²) conductor – properly sized to keep voltage drop low over a 6m run.
  • 6 metres / 20ft per lead – enough to get from a roof panel to a controller inside.
  • Factory-fitted MC4 connectors – weatherproof, correctly crimped connection at the panel.
  • Bare wire at the controller end – terminate straight into the charge controller terminals.
  • Supplied as a pair – positive and negative leads.
  • UV and weather rated cable – built for permanent outdoor exposure.

Ideal For

  • Connecting roof-mounted panels to a charge controller inside the van.
  • Fixed solar installations on caravans, campers and canopies.
  • Extending a portable panel so it can reach full sun.
  • Replacing improvised or undersized existing solar wiring.
  • Any run where you want factory MC4 ends rather than hand-crimped joints.

Local Support from 4Matt Campers

4Matt Campers delivers genuine Renogy parts across South Africa. Tell us your panel wattage and how far the cable actually has to travel, and we will confirm whether 10AWG at 6m is right or whether you need a heavier gauge. Come through to the showroom and see how we route and gland solar cable properly.

Optional Fitment & Upgrade Notes

Route the cable so it cannot chafe. On a caravan that means a proper waterproof roof gland at the entry point, cable clips or conduit along the run, and no sharp edges. Keep the positive and negative runs together rather than separated, and leave a drip loop before the gland. If your run is significantly longer than 6m, or your array is bigger than a couple of hundred watts, step up a gauge rather than accepting the drop. Terminate the bare ends into the controller with ferrules if the terminals accept them, and always connect the battery to the charge controller before connecting the panels.

Complete Your Setup

Pick your panel from our solar panels range and the controller from our solar charge controllers collection. Store the energy in a bank from our lithium batteries range, add 230V from our inverters and inverter chargers, and find branch connectors, in-line fuses and glands in our electrical accessories collection. The full range is in our Renogy collection.

FAQ

Which end goes where?
The MC4 connectors plug into the solar panel. The bare wire ends terminate into your charge controller's PV input terminals.

Is 10AWG enough for my panel?
For a typical 100W to 200W panel over this length, yes. Larger arrays or longer runs want a heavier gauge. Send us your details and we will check.

Can I cut it shorter?
Yes, cut from the bare-wire end, never the MC4 end. Shorter is electrically better.

Do I need an in-line fuse?
On a single panel it is often omitted, but on multi-panel arrays fusing each string is good practice. We stock MC4 in-line fuse holders.

Will these connectors fit my panel?
MC4 is the industry standard and fits Renogy panels and most others. Check your panel's connector type if it is an unusual brand.
