Short Product Summary

Five male and five female solar connectors with their crimp contacts and sealing glands, for terminating your own PV cable. This is the spares tin you want in the trailer before you need it, and the right way to make up custom-length panel leads.

Why This Product

Every solar install eventually needs a connector fitted on site. You cut an extension lead to length, a connector gets crushed under a jockey wheel, or you build an array where the factory leads are 300 mm too short. Buying connectors in fives rather than singly means the job never stops for want of one part. These are the heavier-built version of the standard solar connector: two silver-plated copper contacts, a proper compression gland, and a housing that seals to IP67 once mated. Rated to 30A and 1000V DC, they suit 10 and 12 AWG PV cable, which covers virtually all caravan and camper panel wiring. A word of honesty: they need a proper crimping tool and a spanner. A connector crimped with pliers looks identical and behaves completely differently after two years on a hot roof, because the joint slowly oxidises and the resistance climbs until it gets warm. If you do not have the tool, bring us the cable.

Key Features

  • Five complete pairs supplied – enough for a full array rebuild plus spares in the toolbox.
  • 30A rated current – covers any single-string caravan or camper panel run.
  • 1000V DC maximum voltage – well beyond anything a 12V or 24V array presents.
  • IP67 rated when mated – sealed against dust and water for permanent outdoor use.
  • Silver-plated copper contacts – contact resistance under 0.5mΩ and it stays that way.
  • Suits 10 and 12 AWG PV cable – the standard gauges used for solar panel wiring.
  • PA and PC housing, Protection Class II – UV stable and built for years in the sun.
  • Auto-lock mating – an audible click when seated and no accidental separation on corrugated roads.
  • Rated from approximately -40°C to +90°C – fine on a black roof in December.

Ideal For

  • Making up custom-length solar extension leads for a caravan or camper.
  • Repairing a damaged connector on a roof array or portable panel.
  • Rewiring an array after moving panels around a roof hatch or aerial.
  • Keeping spares in the trailer for a long trip through Namibia or Botswana.
  • Any solar install where the factory leads are the wrong length.

Local Support from 4Matt Campers

4Matt Campers supplies Renogy gear nationwide across South Africa. If you would rather have leads made up properly than crimp them yourself, bring us the cable and the lengths and we will do it. A badly crimped solar connector is one of the most common causes of an array that used to work and now does not. Cable, extension leads and in-line fuses are in electrical accessories, with the full range in Renogy.

Optional Fitment & Upgrade Notes

You will need a solar connector crimping tool and a pair of connector spanners. Strip the cable to the length the contact requires, crimp with the correct die, then push the contact into the housing until it clicks and tighten the gland properly onto the insulation. The gland is what makes the connector waterproof, so it must grip the outer jacket, not the copper. Get the polarity right: convention is a male connector on the positive lead coming out of a panel. Once mated, these lock, and separating them without the release spanners will damage the housing. Use PV-rated double-insulated cable, not ordinary automotive wire, for anything that lives on a roof in the sun.

Complete Your Setup

Use them with panels from solar panels, PV cable, branch connectors and in-line fuses from electrical accessories, and a regulator from solar charge controllers. Battery storage is in lithium batteries and 230V conversion in inverters and inverter chargers.

FAQ

Do I need a special tool?
Yes, a solar connector crimping tool and connector spanners. Crimping with pliers produces a joint that fails slowly and is very hard to diagnose.

Will they fit my existing panel leads?
They are standard solar connectors, the same type fitted to Renogy panels and most other brands. Compare yours before ordering.

What cable should I use with them?
PV-rated double-insulated solar cable in 10 or 12 AWG. Ordinary automotive cable degrades in UV and is not rated for the job.

Which connector goes on the positive?
Convention is male on the panel positive output. Follow the same convention throughout the array so nothing gets crossed later.

Can I reuse a connector I have taken apart?
The housing usually yes, the crimped contact no. Fit a fresh contact rather than reusing one that has been pulled out.
